Mazbeen Ali

Office of State Representative Chris Turner

ABOUT MAZBEEN

Mazbeen Ali is a sophomore from Austin, Texas, majoring in finance at Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School. She is involved in several student organizations, including the Aggie Financial Women’s Association, the Ismaili Muslim Students Association, and Finding Resources for Underprivileged Groups in Aggieland. Among many other topics, Mazbeen is passionate about education and women’s health policy. Her commitment to education policy stems from her volunteer work as a kindergarten teacher for the Early Childhood Development Program at her place of faith, as well as her fundraising efforts for Mercy Project, a nonprofit that supports educating child laborers in southeastern Ghana. Her passion for women’s health policy was ignited by her contributions to Knitted Knockers, where she serves as a volunteer to help hand-make breast prostheses for breast cancer survivors who cannot afford surgical implants. After earning her bachelor's degree, Mazbeen plans to expand her sustainable blanket business, which aims to employ and provide fair wages to underprivileged families in her home country. She also intends to earn a master’s degree and work in policy analysis to deepen her understanding of law and public policy, with the goal of improving the quality of life of underserved communities both domestically and internationally. She looks forward to learning and making an impact in her hometown of Austin this semester through the Office of State Representative Chris Turner.

ABOUT JONATHAN

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jonathan Amason graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. A first-generation Aggie, Jonathan transferred to Texas A&M from Austin Community College in 2022 to pursue his interest in public policy. He developed this passion through his work as a student worker with Best Buy and Academy. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys experiencing the outdoors and has made it a goal to visit every national park in the country. Attending Texas A&M has allowed Jonathan to broaden his interests by participating in numerous kinesiology classes, where he discovered hobbies such as paintball, rock climbing, and scuba diving. Jonathan is interning with the Office of State Senator Bryan Hughes, where he works closely with the Senate committees that Senator Hughes serves on. He is excited to contribute to the creation of complex state laws and is confident that the experience will be invaluable as he prepares for law school and his future career.

ABOUT KENNETH

Kenneth Arreazola, a proud member of the Class of 2026 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), is a driven and passionate student from Laredo, Texas, pursuing a degree in business administration. At just 20 years old, Kenneth has already demonstrated a deep commitment to understanding government and public policy, a passion sparked during his youth and nurtured through academic and extracurricular experiences. This spring, Kenneth will take a significant step in his career journey by interning with the Office of State Representative Salman Bhojani. This opportunity aligns perfectly with his aspirations to pursue a Juris Doctorate after graduating from TAMIU. Kenneth’s involvement as an officer in the Pre-Law Chapter at TAMIU reflects his dedication to fostering engagement with the legal field among his peers. However, his true passion lies in making a tangible impact through public service. He envisions a future as an elected official in Texas, working to ensure the state continues to progress and meet the needs of its citizens. ABOUT CAMPBELL

Campbell Beresford, a native of Houston, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with minors in business and sports management. Campbell plans to attend law school after concluding her time in Austin. Her journey at Texas A&M has allowed Campbell to be involved in the Premiere Aggie Mentor Leadership Organization, Sports Management Society, and the Honors Student Council, where she actively contributed to leadership and development initiatives for herself and students alike. Her experience has extended beyond the traditional classroom, including an Account Manager Internship at Embark Marketing and a Legal Clerk at Banks & Banks Attorneys at Law. In the spring of 2023, Campbell had the opportunity to partake in research work in Costa Rica as part of the Tico-Texas Cultural Exchange COIL Project. This cultural exchange experience has helped Campbell develop a strong foundation in cross-cultural communication and sustainability efforts. Her research in Costa Rica allowed her to see firsthand how impactful thoughtful policy and organized initiatives can be in creating sustainable solutions. With aspirations to attend law school in the coming fall, Campbell is eager to apply her skills in a field where she can make a tangible difference. This program will provide her with valuable learning experiences in the policy-making process and procedures, which will help her achieve her future endeavors. This spring, Campbell is excited to continue her journey in Austin, Texas, as an intern with the Office of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

Richard "Asher" Brown

ABOUT ASHER

Asher Brown is a junior nuclear engineering student at Texas A&M University, hailing from Liberty Hill, Texas. With a strong commitment to service and leadership, Asher gained valuable legislative experience in the summer of 2024 as an intern with the House Natural Resources Committee in Washington, D.C. On campus, he is an active member of the Media Team with Breakaway Ministries, one of the largest Bible studies in the country. In this role, Asher seeks to serve Jesus by serving others, fostering meaningful connections, and leaving a positive, lasting impact on those around him. A passionate advocate for his home state of Texas, Asher is deeply invested in the issues that affect its people. His interests focus on challenges like strengthening the Texas energy grid, protecting Second Amendment rights, and defending the right to life for the unborn. Inspired by a love for his community and the values that define Texas, Asher is dedicated to addressing the needs of Texans and advocating for policies that reflect their best interests. With aspirations to run for office in the future, Asher views this internship as a critical step in deepening his understanding of the Texas State Legislature. He is committed to learning what it takes to effectively represent the people of Texas and be a catalyst for positive change.

ABOUT JARELI

Jareli Cavazos is a senior at Texas A&M University, from Hidalgo, Texas, graduating in spring 2025. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a concentration in Commerce, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She also holds minors in business and Latina/o Mexican American literature studies. While at Texas A&M, Jareli has been very involved on campus. She has been on the Dean’s List for three semesters and is a Century Scholar recipient. Additionally, Jareli has served as a peer mentor for three semesters, helping incoming freshman students navigate their first year of college. In her free time, Jareli volunteers at the Brazos Valley Food Bank, Texas A&M Disability Services, and Redeemer Lutheran Church. Jareli has also worked extensively with elementary children through her fellowship with Teach for America’s Ignite program and spent a year working with Texas A&M’s Reads & Counts program. Jareli has been heavily involved in student leadership as the Vice President of Finance for the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and a Site Leader for Alternative Spring Break. In the summer of 2023, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain, through CEA Study Abroad. Alongside cultural immersion and coursework, she volunteered every day with underprivileged children through ITACA Volunteer, helping them advance their English linguistic skills. Jareli has dedicated her career to making a difference in others’ lives through her direct involvement in her community. She is excited to make an even greater impact during the 89th Legislative Session in Austin, Texas, working on policy. This spring, Jareli is interning with the Office of Texas State Senator Charles Schwertner.

ABOUT GAVIN

Gavin Dealy, a proud fourth-generation Aggie, is in his junior year at Texas A&M University majoring in environmental geoscience. With plans to go to law school following his May 2026 graduation, Gavin is pursuing a certificate in pre-law philosophy to further the legal knowledge he has gained from interning at Riddle and Butts, LLP. At Texas A&M, Gavin is a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he served as Philanthropy Chair for the spring 2024 semester, raising money for the Live Like Lou Foundation. He has gained valuable experience working in various jobs such a plant nursery, security guard, and at the International Ocean Discovery Program on campus, where he collaborates with scientists all over the world to supply ocean core samples for various research projects. Gavin took part in the PPIP program in Washington, D.C., this past fall, where he interned with the Office of Congressman Michael McCaul. Gavin has long been fascinated by the application of law in everyday life and is excited to witness first-hand how the Texas State government creates these laws. He hopes that interning with the Office of State Representative Dr. Tom Oliverson in Austin will expose him to the vital skills to be a knowledgeable lawyer and further his understanding of politics.

ABOUT STEPHANIE

Stephanie deCamp is a senior at Texas A&M University, where she is pursuing a degree in international relations. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Stephanie balances her academic pursuits with active involvement in diverse organizations, including the AI Society, TIDAL, UNICEF, Texas A&M’s International Buddy Exchange Program, and the Amnesty Club. Stephanie has conducted extensive undergraduate research. Her first project, "The Transborder Lifestyle: Studying, Parenting, and Schooling Across Borders," examined the experiences of K-12 border commuter families in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, assessing the impact of transborderism on family dynamics and education. Currently, she is working on the "Latin American Ministries Project," a comprehensive effort to construct a publicly accessible database of government ministers in Latin American countries, with the aim of identifying patterns in regional governance. Stephanie's passion for international relations began in grade school and deepened during her final two years of high school abroad, where she was exposed to a broader range of global perspectives and coursework. Her ultimate goal is to explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and international relations, leveraging skills in data analysis and predictive modeling to enhance decision-making in diplomacy and global policy. Stephanie is excited to be interning with the Office of State Representative Giovanni Capriglione this spring.

ABOUT ALEXANDER

Alexander “Alex” Elsworth is a senior at Texas A&M University from McKinney, Texas. He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in political science and will graduate in the fall of 2025. After graduation, Alex seeks to attend law school and start a career in immigration law. He is passionate about education and immigration policy, as well as the development of law and its real-world applications. Alex served as the Vice President for the Council of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (C.A.S.H.) at A&M, a student council for the College of Arts and Sciences. In his role, he worked to better connect the student body with university staff, allowing student voices to be heard. In addition, he is a member of the Arabic Language Club, a student organization helping to educate people about the Arabic language and culture. His roles in student organizations have taught him valuable leadership and communication skills. Alex views interning at the Office of State Representative Venton Jones as a great way to give back to his community and learn more about public policy, and the impact it has on Texans. He looks forward to growing and developing new skills, to help with his post-graduation success. In his free time, Alex is a violinist in the TAMU Philharmonic Orchestra and enjoys reading about history.

ABOUT ROGER

Roger Gonzalez, a senior at Texas A&M University from Keller, Texas, is currently pursuing a degree in communication with a minor in business. At Texas A&M, Roger is a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he served as the Recorder for the spring and fall semesters in 2023. While serving in this role, Roger was responsible for designing and distributing all merchandise, running the fraternity’s social media platforms, and coordinating events with other fraternities on campus. Roger is planning to attend law school in the fall semester of 2025 after gaining valuable insight into the legal field while working as an intern for the David Sanchez Law Group, PLLC. This spring, Roger is interning for Texas State Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen, practicing neurosurgeon and Chair of The House Appropriations Committee. While working as an intern for Dr. Bonnen, Roger is hoping to witness firsthand the bill making process and the various moving parts involved with making sure these bills are funded.

ABOUT ANNIE

Annie Mosis graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2024 with a degree in international studies and minors in Spanish and business. Originally from Boerne, Texas, she proudly became the first Aggie in her family. Serving as Community Service Director of her women’s organization, Chi Omega, Annie became passionate about serving diverse communities. She united students and communities across College Station to help benefit Chi Omegas' local philanthropy, Still Creek Ranch, a home for children that come from at-risk situations. She hosted clothing drives, assisted in fundraisers of 5k runs, planned dances for the children, and helped in fundraising 50,000 dollars through Songfest all benefitting Still Creek Ranch. In her education, she thoroughly enjoyed studying and traveling to 12 different countries where she gained an understanding of how various cultures address their nations' needs. Annie hopes to continue bringing communities together in the future and learning from the Office of Texas State Senator Kelly Hancock in public policy and community development.

Sarah Olmos, a junior at Texas A&M University from Houston, Texas, is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in public health. Through her time at Texas A&M, she has developed a passion for public policy particularly within the healthcare system, inspired by classes at the Bush School and an elective in health policy. Sarah has been actively involved on campus, including a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO), where she was a member her freshman year and a counselor her sophomore year, mentoring incoming freshmen. She is also a member of Aggie Sweethearts, a women’s organization centered on sisterhood, spirit, philanthropy, social events, and fundraising. After graduating in May 2026, Sarah plans to pursue a master’s in public health followed by law school. She is interning in the Office of State Representative Nicole Collier and is eager to gain valuable insights and experience during her time there.

Haylee Plumley, a recent graduate of Texas A&M with a degree in political science, is from Austin, Texas. During her time at A&M, she was involved in Aggie Blossoms, a women’s organization that raises funds to provide school supplies for children in the Bryan/College Station area. Her interest in policy was sparked when she joined her high school debate team, where she competed in the Lincoln-Douglas forum. Through this, she gained a passion for understanding diverse perspectives and a drive to know how policy outcomes can impact lives. Haylee has gained valuable experience through a long-term internship with Digital Advance, a political affairs firm, where she developed skills in data analytics and learned how data influences policymaking. Additionally, her interest in environmental issues drives her to pursue impactful policy changes to benefit the environment. This spring, she is excited to be interning with the Office of State Senator Pete Flores, where she hopes to continue making a difference.

Natalie Portillo Franco, a first-generation student from Dallas, Texas, recently earned her degree in international studies: politics and diplomacy track, with minors in business and Spanish, in December 2024. At Texas A&M, Natalie was a student worker with the Howdy Crew, which gives tours of campus to incoming freshmen and prospective students. She was also the director of Multicultural Outreach for the University’s Visitors Center. Additionally, she served as the public relations officer in her women's organization, where she assisted with philanthropy events benefitting SARC and Aggieland Humane Society. Natalie is excited to expand her skill set and knowledge while interning in Austin, Texas, during the 89th legislative session with the Office of Representative Gary Gates. ABOUT NATASHA

Natasha Simmons is a sophomore at Texas A&M University from Pflugerville, Texas, majoring in psychology with a minor in political science. Her combined studies in psychology and political science have inspired her to pursue a law and public policy career. She hopes to become an advocate for others who cannot represent themselves and make positive changes in the legislature. Aside from her academics, she serves as the cultural inclusion and academics officer in her freshman leadership organization, FLARE. She is also the Student Council of Arts and Sciences recruitment officer, a programming and marketing committee member for the Pre-Law Society, and a Psychology club member. Natasha’s work experience includes a role as a cashier at HEB, where she developed excellent interpersonal skills that she believes will serve her well in the political atmosphere of the Texas Legislature. Additionally, she interned with the Brazos Interfaith Immigration Network, a non-profit, where she had the opportunity to give back to the local Bryan/College Station immigrant community by teaching citizenship classes. Her dedication to service is evident through her volunteer work with organizations such as Scotty’s House, Aggieland Humane Society, and Twin City Mission. Natasha believes selfless service is a cornerstone of effective leadership and public service. Natasha looks forward to further developing her time management, problem-solving, and dedication to serving others during the 89th Legislative Session. Her passion for public service and serving justice has blessed her with the opportunity to continue this journey through an internship in Austin, Texas, with the Office of State Representative Claudia Ordaz this spring.

ABOUT DAVID

David Taravella is a sophomore at Texas A&M University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. David was proudly born and raised in Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas. With the goal of attending law school after graduation, David has developed his passion for the legal field while at A&M. David has worked in two civil law firms, Fairchild, Price Haley, and Smith Law firm in Nacogdoches and West, Webb, Allbritton, and Gentry Law firm in College Station. Most recently David was employed as a legal assistant at the Nacogdoches County Attorney’s Office, where he gained experience in bond forfeiture, the discovery process, and day-to-day operations of county-level government. At A&M, David is a member of the Pre-Law Society and is an active member of A&M United Methodist Church, where he participates in the college worship team. During the 89th Legislative Session, David is interning with the Office of State Senator Robert Nichols. He is honored to serve the people of the 3rd district of Texas and knows he will gain invaluable insight into the creation of the laws and statutes that impact the everyday lives of Texans.

Maria Tellez is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University from Houston, Texas, earning her degree in international studies with a concentration in politics and diplomacy. In her free time, Maria enjoys reading, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and following professional tennis. She is passionate about environmental, transportation, and women’s health policies. Last spring, Maria participated in the Public Policy Internship Program in Washington, D.C., where she interned with the Global Cold Chain Alliance. While in D.C., Maria attended congressional hearings, learned about the cold supply chain, and explored the nation’s capital. In her spare time, Maria volunteers at Casa Juan Diego, a Catholic organization that provides shelter and resources to migrants in the Houston community, as well as whoever may need it. Her interest in policy began with a passion for learning about history and research. It was books detailing the lives of trailblazers such as Paul Farmer or Bill Browder that inspired her to pursue an internship in Washington, D.C. with PPIP at A&M. Now, she is interning in Austin with Williams Public Affairs where she hopes to continue to impact policy within Texas.

Owen Thompson, a first-generation Aggie from Cleveland, Texas, is in his senior year at Texas A&M University, majoring in political science. After graduating in the fall of 2025, Owen plans to attend Texas A&M’s Bush School of Government and Public Service to pursue a Master of Public Service and Administration. At Texas A&M, he is an active member of the Tabletop Troupe, where he serves as an event coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year. Owen has also volunteered as an intern on U.S. Senator Ted Cruz's campaign, where he gained valuable experience in articulating and defending his political beliefs, as well as engaging with people on controversial issues in a civil and respectful manner. Passionate about politics from a young age, Owen is excited to witness firsthand how the State of Texas develops laws, and the coordination required to run the Texas State Congress. Through his internship with the Office of State Senator Bryan Hughes in Austin, he hopes to gain essential skills in policy analysis and research, while deepening his understanding of Texas politics.

ABOUT SEBASTIAN

Sebastian Valdivia was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, but spent much of his childhood in Mexico. This unique experience of living between two cultures has shaped his perspective and provided him with a rich variety of knowledge that continues to guide him toward his goals. Thanks to the support of his parents, Sebastian was among the top five percent of his high school class and has since become part of the Texas A&M University community, where he has had access to incredible opportunities. As he continues his academic journey, Sebastian aspires to attend Texas A&M School of Law and is eager to pursue a career in law. This spring, Sebastian is interning with the Association of Electric Companies of Texas.

ABOUT EZRA

Ezra Villarreal is a junior political science major at Texas A&M University from Corpus Christi, Texas. He currently works for Texas A&M Intramural Sports, where he oversees the intramural flag football competition. Ezra is a member of the men’s organization, Paradigm, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He previously interned for the Port of Corpus Christi and Twenty-First Century Group, where he worked as a government affairs intern in Washington, D.C. It was in these internships that he was able to interact with politicians and became inspired to work in Austin. Ezra enjoys history which has made him interested in foreign affairs in the Middle East and in Europe. Growing up close to the U.S./Mexico border has made him interested in immigration policy. He is also passionate about education and infrastructure policy. After graduation, Ezra also plans on attending graduate school and studying abroad to deepen his understanding of international politics and diplomacy. He hopes to make his mark in Austin, Texas this spring whilst interning for State Senator Molly Cook.

Caleb White, a senior political science major at Texas A&M University from Pflugerville, Texas, grew up in a family with a strong legacy of public service in the state of Texas. Through his time earning his Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts of America, Caleb discovered his own interests in the field of public service that would play a large role in shaping his educational pursuits after high school. As a proud second-generation Aggie, Caleb followed his passion by attending the Bush School of Government and Public Service. His commitment to public service continues this spring as he interns as a Legislative Director with the Office of State Representative Terri Leo-Wilson. Looking forward, after graduating in December of 2025, Caleb plans to dedicate himself to serving the state of Texas with a career in public policy.

ABOUT PIERCE

Originally from Spring, Texas, Pierce Whitley is currently a student studying at Texas A&M University, double majoring in geographic information science and technology and political science, with a minor in information technology service management. Pierce aspires to become a Texas State Senator. As a member of the Corps of Cadets, he has taken on the roles of Clerk and Scholastic Corporal his sophomore year, and as a junior is now the Scholastics Sergeant where he manages grade point averages and supports the overall academic success of the outfit K-2s freshmen.
